Loved this. I do feel very sorry for you at having to eat so many servings of that awesome food. The kindness of strangers. For all the shit that goes on in the world and all the despairing and wringing of hands, there’s this welcoming a stranger into a family meal with hearts wide open. This is being a good human. With love and respect for each other and for all the animal and land under their care. Thank you

In this case a family someone was there to help with translation. Sometimes I befriend or am hosted by a person who can act as an interpreter. But In many situations I’ve used google translate, and learned how much can be communicated with gestures, noises, drawings.

It often comes down to how patient people are with me, and how accustomed they are to dealing with travelers who don’t speak their language. It’s very impressive how in a place like Georgia, most of the shepherds I met were multilingual, speaking Georgian, Russian, and perhaps German or English.
